Astrology is a tool. Tools can be used for building or breaking
. However it’s used is subjective. I do not wish to use astrology pretend I am God, but to serve God.God has always been of interest to me. Even when I was 14 and rebelliously agnostic, I couldn’t bring myself to say I was fully atheist except when I was lying to hurt my homophobic religion teacher’s feelings.
My spirituality and understanding of astrology intersect in my personal life, but in my professional practice I keep it secular, letting the client’s beliefs take precedence over my own. I show clients and readers cyclical patterns in their lives, unearth symbols to reflect on, and teach about astrology.
Astrology can reveal the cross sections of fate and free will. It’s tricky to balance control and surrender. Sometimes divination is clung to, maybe as a trauma response— to try to know everything, sadly, to avoid being hurt again. It’s dangerous to believe that because it’s digitally formulated into some cryptic symbols that fate is set in stone. Anything is possible with awareness, faith, chance.
Although my spiritual beliefs are not part of my profession, I hope to guide others towards a sense of wholeness. I hope to reveal how connected everyone is, that one soul is not separate from another. I think things can change with observation, awareness, and that’s the magic of consciousness.
The thing that represents consciousness in astrology is the sun. The sun corresponds with vision, soul, truth. In the tropical zodiac, which is what’s most popularly practiced in the west, the tropical seasons determine how the sky is divided, beginning with the position of the sun during the spring equinox at 0º Aries, and each zodiac divided into 30º thereafter.
The tropical zodiac is solar in that it is idealistic, Apollonian. It’s also literally based on the position of the sun. With the zodiac, man sought to bring reason to the chaos of the cosmos. The sky is not actually divided into 12 even parts, but some early astrologers chose to make it so, and used the sun as the main guide. The path of the sun, the solar belt, is what leads tropical astrology, which is a harmonious, mathematically idealized version of observable phenomena. The animating factor of astrology, and of our solar system, is the soul or consciousness: it’s the sun. Depending on one’s beliefs, the soul takes many different forms.
Anything and everything in existence can be discussed through the lens of astrology. However, it is up to the discernment of the astrologer to decide what is appropriate. Astrology is a vehicle to ponder life’s mysteries, but at the end of the day, it’s a man made system. It’s not proof that we’re powerless
, at the mercy of symbols. It’s rather a reflection of events on earth. The way in which it is used, or viewed, is up to the beholder. I hope that it is always used to bring people closer together, and to give everyone a sense of dignity and purpose. Seeing astrology be used for evil deeply upsets me.I once read that astrology is an experience. If one is not open to witnessing or experiencing it, it won’t be. Like Schrödinger’s cat. It’s not confirmation bias, it’s particle-wave duality. It’s consciousness. It’s the sun. It’s how we tell time. It’s how we get food. It’s what unites all souls.
I didn’t come up with this analogy myself.
While we’re scientifically past the point of being afraid of eclipses’ black suns, it definitely strikes fear in my heart when I read that a meteor is headed for earth. So maybe we are actually powerless to the greater powers outside of us and should always stay humble.
