At the tail-end of the last lunar cycle, I presented a powerpoint to a room full of non-astrologers. The moon was waning crescent. Dear friends, astrology clients, and legends of the scene all came out to learn about how to use the moon to tell time!
I’m happy to have had a nice turnout for “Timing with the Moon”, which coincidentally also aligned with one synodic cycle, starting with the new moon in Cancer, and ending around the new moon in Leo. I couldn’t have done it without our friend Ryan from everyone’s favorite bar/venue in Neukölln, Tennis Bar. Thanks, Ryan + Tennis! <3
For my subscribers, I’ve recorded a video of the presentation! Unfortunately my face didn’t make it into the video, as planned. A Mercury retrograde casualty.
In this presentation, I introduce the synodic cycle (new moon to new moon), discuss different ways of tracking the moon’s astronomical motion, and give a very basic introduction of tropical zodiac versus sidereal zodiac. Then I get into the phases of the moon, and tie it all together with real world examples.
I used US news headlines from the most recent synodic cycle from July 6-August 4, 2024. Since the US is a Cancer, these wound up perfectly aligning with the most recent synodic cycle, which began in Cancer right around the time of the USA’s birthday, July 4th. Therefore, this video also contains an introduction to political or mundane astrology.
If you were expecting to receive this video earlier, I apologize. I was planning on recording and sending it out on August 1, but there was an emergency. Then, the following week, I was on vacation. It turned out to be divine timing.
Since giving the talk on July 31, I was able to figure out what the new moon on August 4 signified within the context of the US Presidential Election. Because I was able to resist Mercury retrograde’s “false sense of urgency”, I wound up able to discuss the entire synodic cycle from new moon to new moon in this video. I hope you enjoy it.
